The Clear Pupil after Cataract Extraction

Major Baird's description of his experience with cataract in Gronda* seems to suggest that nothing more than a clear pupil is required in a cataract operation, and that patients are contented with their vision after operation by Colonel Smith's method with an iridectomy. I do not think that this contentment is proved by such large numbers coming for operation, for it appears that a large number of his cases were done near the patient's own villages. I consider that a clear pupil is only half the battle: it must also be round and react otherwise
